Showing Left Side Quick Launch Bar Navigation on a SharePoint Webpart Page

By default when a new SharePoint Webpart Page is created in MOSS 2007 the left side quick launch bar navigation does not show up.  In some cases you want this to show so you can easily have access to all your document libraries, lists instead of having to browse back to the main site to get to the site navigation.

To accomplish this:

1.  Open up SharePoint Designer 2007
2.  Open up or load your Web Part page that you want to show the left side quick launch bar navigation.
3.  In the code section of your page in SharePoint Designer 2007 find these two lines:

<asp:Content ContentPlaceHolderId=”PlaceHolderLeftNavBar” runat=”server”></asp:Content>
<asp:Content ContentPlaceHolderId=”PlaceHolderNavSpacer” runat=”server”></asp:Content>

4.  Delete or comment out both of these lines.
5.  Do a split view of your webpart page (if you haven’t done so already) in SharePoint Designer.
6.  Click inside the design view.  Your design will rerender and you should now see the quick launch bar navigation on the left side.
7.  Save your webpart page.
8.  Browse to your webpart page in SharePoint.  The quick launch bar navigation should be present.
