Unlocking SharePoint Sites

If you were preforming a backup of a SharePoint farm or site using the STSADM.exe command majority of the time the process locks up SharePoint from being modified or changed during the backup process.  Sometimes you might have to stop the backup in the middle of its backup for whatever reason.  Often people forget that even though you stop the backup process that doesn’t mean your SharePoint site will be unlocked.  So to unlock your SharePoint site.

1.  Remote into the SharePoint Server.
2.  Browse to c:\program files\common files\microsoft shared\webserver extentions\12\bin
3.  Run stsadm.exe -o setsitelock -url <url of sharepoint site> -lock none.
4.  This will unlock the SharePoint site and then modification can resume.
